An Interview With Talented Artist Marley Waters
From Boston Marley Waters grew up a Christian rapper performing in churches.He was selected as a dancer on the MTV Dance Troupes & a contestant on America’s Got Talent. While attending college his dorm room was used as an office as he continued developing as an artist.He used money made from a part time jobs to support studio recording costs & found himself waking up on the floor inside the vocal booth assuring he used every hour.
His self-inflected, boot camp & perseverance manifested into a resume with credits such as Tinashe, Lil’ Wayne, Tory Lanez, Justine Skye,Christina Millian & many more.In 2012 Marley produced the platinum single “2 On” for Tinashe’s. In 2014 he was awarded songwriter of the year & signed a deal with Sony ATV. On the heels of his recently produced single “I Swear” for Wyclef Jean & Kranium’s single “We Can”, 2017 is his year to shine as an Artist. On April 15th, Nu Kingdom Records releasing his new single “Wine Up On It”.
Q:When you decide it’s time to make a new record, is that more exciting or stressful?
Ans: It’s always exciting to explore a new idea , a new soundscape, new possibilities.
Q: What’s your motto or the advice you live by?
Ans: Live. Love Laugh & Learn… Always.
Q: For our readers who have never heard your music, explain your sound in 5 words?
Ans: Exciting, Vibrant, Thought-Provoking, Authentic & Powerful
Q: You write all of your own music; where do you draw inspiration from when you write songs and what’s your favorite part about the proccess?
ANS: My own life experience, personal encounters & my travels. It’s a constant process of self-discovery, evaluation & creation &, it makes great music too. [Laughs]
Q: If you could perform with anyone, in the future, who would it have to be?
Ans: Anyone who is creating Nu Waves, from anywhere in the world. If I feel their vibe &, that feeling’s mutual, let’s do it!
Q:Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to sing as a career or just advice about careers in general?
Ans : Always be self-aware & true to yourself. Never be afraid to pursue what you’re passionate about. Because regret sucks!
Q:When and why did you start making music?
ANS: I was born an entertainer. I started Performing at such a young age. Growing up in the church. I felt a higher power, that spiritual energy of music. Also, watching my dad’s love for music & his journey as a musician created an early curiosity in me.
Q: Which famous musicians do you admire? Why?
Ans: Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Jimmy Hendrix, Prince,Whitney Houston, Teddy Riley, Timbaland, Beyonce’, Jay-Z, Nas. There’s so many but they all embody greatness in their own unique way & their never afraid to push the “boundaries” & explore new sounds.
Q: Do you attend sessions? What makes a good session?
Ans: I’m in sessions all the time. [Laughs] . Every session is different but, as long as everyone involved is there for the love of the art & has an open heart, soul & mind, beautiful creations come forth.
Q: How often and for how long do you practice?
Ans: I’m always working on myself & my craft. At this point it’s just a way of life for me. I don’t see that changing.
