Pop Duo HOFFEY Releases Debut Single “Love Is Wild”

Vancouver, Canada – New Canadian pop duo HOFFEY is set to release their debut single Love Is Wild available on all digital platforms July 27, 2018.

Love Is Wild portrays a story about the initial euphoric, exciting but also selfishness of new love. Reflected in their own love story, Jordan and Erika Toohey began to write this unique track back in 2014, alongside Executive Producer David Balshaw. What started off as just another love ballad, turned into an exciting mid-tempo tune, fitting for a pop playlist.

“This track is really about new relationships and how much you need that person because of how they make you feel. It’s definitely more selfish to start. But once it gets past that point and it turns into real mutual care for each other, it becomes free, unwavering, scary, exciting, selfless and wild all at the same time. To go through everything with someone you love…it’s one of the most hard but beautiful things ever.

That’s what Love Is Wild is about” – HOFFEY

Q:When you decide it’s time to make a new record, is that more exciting or stressful?

Ans: When its time to work on the next song we get HYPED! We love moving forward and are constantly working on new stuff.

Q: How easily do songs tend to come to you?

Ans : Almost everyday we’re writing something new. But its always different – some days it flows better than others. There’s been times when we’ll come up with an entire song in our heads and have to sing and beat box it onto voice memos haha. We write a lot because thats how we express ourselves and process life. We’re very similar in that way.

Q: What’s your motto or the advice you live by?

Ans: We have a lot! But being thankful for what you already have is the most important for sure! Positivity goes a long way! We’re also very adventurous people so we try to live everyday to the fullest and get the most out of it.

Q: What is your favorite song to belt out at the bar/in the car?

ANs: Erika: “Needed Me” by Rihanna.

Jordan: When im with my boys…Bad Company By: A$AP Rocky

Q: For our readers who have never heard your music, explain your sound in 5 words?

Ans: I guess you could call it vibey, groovy, electro pop, R&B!

Q: You write all of your own music; where do you draw inspiration from when you write songs and what’s your favorite part about the process?

ANS: Most of our inspiration comes from living our day to day life. As artists I think we feel things deeper than most people. Sometimes we write about personal experiences. Other times its about something we’ve seen that has moved us or inspired us, or things that are happening in the world today. Starting a new song is our favourite part of the writing process. Its definitely easier for us to always come up with something fresh but harder to finish it.

Q: At what age did you start singing?

ANS: Jordan: I actually didn’t start singing till I was around 12. But once I started I couldn’t stop!

Erika: Since I was four, I still have a drawing of me singing on stage that I made when I was in kindergarten. Guess I just always kinda knew it was what I            wanted to do with my life.

Q:Who are your inspirations?

Ans: Erika: Rihanna of course but I grew up listening to Norah Jones, Dido, Fleetwood Mac, Etta James. My parents were always blasting music in the house. I think thats why I found my voice at such a young age.

Jordan: Anything new like modern day Electro Pop or Hip Hop. I originally got inspired from the classics like Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Bing Crosby.

Q: If you could perform with anyone, in the future, who would it have to be?

Ans: Louis the Child, Rihanna, Calvin Harris, Justin Timberlake…there’s a lot to be honest.

Q:What is your favorite song to sing live?

Ans: N/A; no live shows yet

Q:Are you recording anything new at the moment?

Ans: Oh yes, we are always recording, always working on the next project!

Q:Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to make music as a career or just give advice about careers in general?

Ans : Honestly just go for it, no matter what people think – at the end of the day you have to do what makes you happy and what gets you fired up and makes you feel the most alive!

And when you want to give up those are the most crucial times to push forward and keep going. It’s a lot of hard work and there is way more of a business aspect to it than people think. But if you put your mind to it, you can do anything!

Q: If you had a soundtrack to your life what song/songs would have to be on it?

Ans : B**ch Don’t Kill My Vibe by Kendrick Lamar  haha just kidding it’d definitely be “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley.

Q:How does the conversation go when someone pitches the performance to you?

Ans: N/A

Q:When and why did you start playing music?

Ans: We both started playing guitar and piano when we were kids – we loved music at a very young age.

Q:  Which instruments do you play?Ans: Jordan: Keys, Guitar, Drums and Bass

Erika: Guitar and Keys

Q: What was the first tune(s) you learned?

Ans: Erika: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, I drove my parents mad practicing that song everyday.

Jordan: What A Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong…

Q: Is your family musical?

Ans Jordan:  Most of the people in my family play the Bagpipes so thats pretty cool haha.

Erika: My family loves music but they can’t really carry a tune to be honest…except for my Gandparents.

Q:  Describe your family member’s musical interests and abilities.

Ans: N/A

Q:  Which famous musicians do you admire? Why?

Ans: Current Artists: Post Malone, Billie Eilish, Khalid, Kendrick Lamar, Justin Timberlake. We admire all artists, but these are just a few that come to mind who really inspire us right now with their creativity and uniqueness. But of course the classics have inspired us the most.

Q:  What are your fondest musical memories? In your house? In your neighborhood or town?

Ans: Erika:  I have a lot of great memories but one of my favourites was playing Annie in my middle school play.

Jordan: When I was in high school my buddies and I were in a band and sold out a show together. That was a monumental moment in my life.

Q:  Were you influenced by old records & tapes? Which ones?

Ans: The Beatles, Elvis, Bob Marley, Billie Holiday, Pink Floyd, The Beach Boys. The list goes on.

Q:  Who are your favorite musicians? Groups? CD’s?

Ans: We have a lot of favourites…but right now we’re really digging Louis the Child and Jaden Smith’s Album SYRE

Q:  How do you handle mistakes during a performance?

Ans: Just keep going and smile!

Q:  Do you get nervous before a performance or a competition?

Ans: Yeah of course! Sometimes we feel like were gonna pass out… but you have to turn that nervousness into excitement and use all of that energy on stage.

Q:  What advice would you give to beginners who are nervous?

Ans: Exercising before helps to get rid of stress. Honestly just be yourself and do your thing!

Q:  How often and for how long do you practice?

Ans: We practice everyday.  We both kinda have ADHD.. so somedays for a few minutes, sometimes for hours. Mostly new tunes or finished ones.

Q: What do you practice – exercises, new tunes, hard tunes, etc.?

Ans: When we’re practicing something we tend to get distracted and write new songs. We really have to motivate ourselves to work on one thing at a time.

Q:  How do you balance your music with other obligations – mate, children, job?

Ans: This is a hard one. We work A LOT and because were married and work together – sometimes we have to remember to switch on to “work mode” and off to “couple mode.” We just try to balance life between family, friends, work, and fun the best we can.
