Dr. Ally K Talks About Her New Release Up,Up & Away

Dr Ally K is a dynamic new artist who writes songs with messages and producers her songs in an urban/pop style, ranging from EDM to Hip Hop. LATEST NEWS – Dr Ally K releases Raptors’ anthem “We The North” single. “We The North” was written by Dr Ally K and produced by Peter Linseman and Carla Sacco at Music Mentor Productions. Ally has surpassed 200,000 streams on Spotify, only 3 months after the release of her first single “The Best (Mean Girl)” off of her 6 song EP “Up Up & Away”.

Who inspired you to make music?

Along time ago, a very close friend of mine passed away by suicide. I had  been studying music for many years but I hadn’t written anything. The first song I ever wrote with the help of my current manager and producer Peter Linseman, was called , ‘The Darkest Days’ and it will be on my album. It is basically about how I dealt with his death.

Tell us about your recent release Up,Up & Away ?

Up up & Away Is my six song EP. It contains a variety of the types of music that I’m writing and performing. ’The Best ( Mean Girl)’is on that album.  I will be releasing a video soon for that song and we’re really excited about  it. https://open.spotify.com/track/3Tct0rrpDA4ihXayrvsizu?si=Crunj07HQRiTtPxeWVHYfQ

What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?

A lot of my songs are about other peoples issues and not my own. ‘The Best (Mean Girl)’ is from the perspective of a teenage girl in high school who is struggling with being a bully, being popular. In the video starring Hailey Fauchere https://www.imdb.com/name/nm8127561/, it really brings to light the ubiquity and horror of bullying.  It sends an anti-bullying message. Definitely all of my songs have messages. If you listen you will catch the message and every single one.

What do you enjoy most about being a musician?

I enjoy the ability to turn real issues into music. I deal with real life life and death situations as a medical doctor every day and this is a different way in which I can bring it to light

What do you hate most?

What I really don’t like is the competition situation. Too many people trying to break into the business and people not really caring about other people’s music. I would love it if we were all sharing it together. Unfortunately platforms in social media have turned it into a popularity contest rather than what’s truly good.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?’

hink that’s what I just mentioned. I would definitely change the way that music is presented. I wish it was old-school again. Everybody is trying to get more and more followers and the people with the most attention tend to get listened to. Working on your social media’s rather than working on the music is very frustrating!

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

On a musical project in terms of writing I would like to collaborate with Taylor Swift. She is super talented and she is able to create so many different ideas. In terms of what I think would sound good with my music, I think NF or Luh Kei would be awesome in a colab.

What are your hopes for the music industry?

That fame and fortune doesn’t drive or doesn’t interfere with creativity. In other words, I hope that these young independent artists, trying to break through, trying to get attention , can be satisfied with the creative process;
playing live shows and enjoying the music. And knowing that if it happens it happens but it doesn’t have to happen to still be incredible music.
